*Be reasonable in your behavior towards other users on the forums. Feel free to discuss things, but be civil. Harassment or threats against other users will result in an immediate ban.

  • Do not post off-topic material in any of the specialized forums.
  • Do not post information about or ask for help with hacking challenges.
  • Do not post information about or ask for help with any aspect of warez, cracks, cracking, or any other illegal activities.
  • Do not post pornographic or other offensive content (mass destruction, graphic violence) on the boards. If you do so after an initial warning, all of your posts will be removed and you will be banned.
  • Offensive usernames may be changed at the discretion of CyberArmy Staff.

General Netiquette:

  • Read the forums before posting. Your question may have been answered already.
  • Do not use excessive capital letters or leetspeak. We want to maintain a professional atmosphere.
  • Do not carry on personal conversations on the forums. We have cMS for that.
  • Do not spam the forums. This means no advertising, no excessive duplicate posting, and no cross-posting to multiple forums.
  • If your post has no message (everything is in the title), remember to put an "n/t" at the end of your subject line as a courtesy to others. "n/t" means "No Text in the body of the message" and that there is no reason for someone to actually open your message (as there's nothing to actually read in it).

CyberArmy Specific Guidelines:

  • For those of you who wish to make use of the CyberArmy Messaging System (cMS), do not post personal messages on the forums telling people to check their cMS. The website notifies the user when there are new messages.
  • Do not post graphics to the forums excessively. If you made a graphic for someone, just post a link to the file or add it to the CyberArmy /files section. Also, all TEST posts (including testing graphics) should go at the bottom of the last page of the Lounge. Signatures should be tested using the preview feature built into the Profile dialog in your MyCA Office. Other graphics work belongs in the Multimedia Design Forum.
  • Our forums are BBCode compatible. You can review the BBCode Guidelines in order to highlight your messages. In addition, you can use BBCode to create automatic signatures at the end of your posts within your profile (in /My/Profile). Signatures are limited to X bytes in order to conserve bandwidth.

Post Voting System

We have implemented a voting system for posts on forums. This will allow users to self-moderate the community standards to a certain degree. Anyone can vote to disapprove of a post, and after a certain number of negative votes have been received, Moderation will be notified to remove the post. Highly offensive materials can still be removed at Moderation's discretion.

Disciplinary Actions

  • The Board Moderators use the above guidelines to help maintain a professional and fun environment for everyone. Maintaining our forums is their job, and their decisions are final. Occasionally, new situations will come up where a member chooses to "test" the Moderation Staff and find loopholes in the Forum Guidelines. These Guidelines are flexible and give Moderation the discretion to determine if a post is disruptive. Our goal is not to censor nor limit free speech, but instead, to maintain a professional self-regulated environment. Board Moderation retains the right to move or delete any post for reasons they feel appropriate. Users may receive the following disciplinary measures for disrupting the forums:
    • 1st Offense - Post moved or deleted. User will be notified via e-mail or cMS to avoid "Why was my post deleted?" type of posts. A "friendly warning".
    • 2nd Offense - Official warning using the following methods: e-mail, message via cMS and a post on the forum where the post was deleted.
    • 3rd Offense - Three day ban from the site.
    • 4th Offense – User’s name will be submitted to the CyberArmy Staff for a one month ban from the site.

In the case of racist remarks, threats, pornography or other flagrant violations, warnings may be waived and the user will be banned immediately. If at any time multiple users continue to violate any of the Forum Guidelines, either Board Moderation or a CyberArmy Staff member may initiate "Zero Tolerance" on a forum. Under "Zero Tolerance", all violations of forum guidelines are no longer enforced with warnings, but with immediate bans of indefinite length. "Zero Tolerance" status can only be unset by a CyberArmy Staff Member or the Chief Moderator.

If you feel that you have not violated any of the guidelines on a forum and your post was removed, you should contact a Marshal, Vice CinC, or the CinC directly. Remember that you can visit #moderation on IRC to discuss issues.

If you should find yourself banned from any of CyberArmy services please follow the CyberArmy Bans and Appeals Procedures.

Reporting Abuse

If you discover a post on the forums that violates these guidelines, please select the "disapprove" button on the top right hand side of the post. Moderators will be informed of an inappropriate post after a critical mass of users has disapproved a post. You can also use the "Report Abuse" option on the Feedback form, or send an e-mail to abuse [at] cyberarmy [dot] net. This will also bring the matter to the attention of the moderators.
