There are several important positions within a Brigade: C/O, X/O, Member, and Honorary Member. You can find most of them named in users signatures when browsing The Forums. We will attempt to summarize the basic roles of, and requirements for, the different positions in the following pages. However, this should be understood as a guideline, not a definition. The role and requirements for each single position within the CyberArmy Brigade System may be slightly different:

Commanding Officer

Abbreviated as C/O, the C/O of any group is, as the name already implies, the group leader. He or she is responsible for completing the tasks the group is faced with. How he or she does this is, in the majority of instances, left up to them with guidance from their own C/O. A C/O can recruit members to join his/her group, appoint a member to be the X/O, and create new subgroups.

The position of C/O is considered to be very powerful without requiring much work, as this can be delegated to the group members, by many new members of the CyberArmy. This is however not true, as a C/O is required to do a lot of coordination work as well as most of a groups recruitment (which can be very time consuming). A C/O is responsible for setting clear goals, which his members can achieve in a reasonable amount of time, personally caring for the problems of each of his members, informing his C/O about the progress of his group, collecting evidence for promotion requests, and requesting promotions. He or she has to show very good communication skills and the skills to solve problems in a fair and unbiased way.

In short, he or she is responsible for everything the group does or fails to do.

Executive Officer

Aliased as X/O, technically, they are the Second in Command of a given Brigade. Any member of a group can be appointed to this position by its C/O. The X/O's are trusted members, with the same power as the C/O except that they cannot request promotions for themselves. Their main task is to help the C/O in running his group or completely taking over when the C/O is absent for any reason. A member receiving X/O status should generally be hard working as well as very good at solving problems.

Member

A member of a group is a person who actually does visible work, e.g. the work the group was initially created for. He or she doesn't have to care about setting/defining goals, recruiting, organizing meetings or such, as this is the task of the C/O and X/O ('s). The CyberArmy, and therefore especially each individual group, can only achieve its goals with the help of every single member. This makes the members the most valuable part of every group.

Using the Chain of Command (CoC)

Members should always go through their immediate C/O (and X/O if appropriate) with any questions or problems. You should avoid taking issues directly to a higher C/O - this prevents higher level C/Os having to deal with all issues within a Brigade (or CA as a whole if you contact the CinC or other exec members) and allows them to concentrate on other tasks. If you have problems getting a response from your direct C/O, or have other problems with that member, you should then go to the C/O (and X/O if appropriate) above him/her.

Following the Chain of Command helps maintain a balance of workload throughout CyberArmy. It ensures C/Os know the full situation of their groups and members, but also a direct C/O is more likely to know more details relating to your situation (he/she will know more about your group and/or project). It is for your C/O to decide if he/she needs to contact the C/O above him for further approval or details regarding the issue.
