Promotions

Promotions are a way of recognising the effort and support a member makes towards the CyberArmy, its Brigades and cause. To be promoted you need to reach some guidelines stated by the promotion council, but also those outlined by your Brigade. You can be promoted up to Kernel for your work in Brigades. Higher promotions are set by the CinC for your continuing devotion to your Brigade and the CyberArmy as a whole.

Promotion Requirements

Every Brigade has different requirements for promotions. All top level C/O's have a standard they set, which is very similar throughout every Brigade, although the way this standard is met may be very different.

Firstly, will your history within CA effect your promotion? The answer is most definitely. As you would expect, it will be taken into consideration. Previous bans, glines on IRC, bad behavior and violations of the Community Rules are likely to go against you. However, if you have shown that this is in the past and that you have since worked hard, it is likely to be considered as 'in the past'. On the other hand, if you do have a history of working hard and supporting CyberArmy's Mission and goals it will also be considered favorably.

The promotion guidelines listed below are generic standards to explain to everyone the rough requirements for promotion. Bear in mind that every Brigade is different, and will have separate criteria that may be found on individual Brigade sites:

Trooper --> Second Lieutenant

  1. You will probably have to have been a member of your Brigade for over a week.
  2. You must be reasonably quick to respond to email/cMS/etc. (around once every 2 days at least).
  3. You probably will have had to successfully complete a few tasks set by your C/O.
  4. You will also have to show a willingness to work and learn.

Second Lieutenant --> Lieutenant

  1. You must have maintained all of Tr --> 2ndLt requirements.
  2. You probably will have to have been active in your group for at least 1 month.
  3. You should show a willingness to be part of the community.

Lieutenant -- > Captain

  1. Again you must have fulfilled all previous requirements.
  2. You should have been active in your Brigade for at least 3 months.
  3. You should be more active than what would be expected for a lower rank. This includes activity on CA Forums, and most importantly your Brigade Forum(s) (if applicable).
  4. You will likely be required to demonstrate that you can come up with ideas of your own, and still do what is requested by your C/O.
  5. Should possibly be capable of a C/O position, if not already in one.
  6. You should have seen at least one semi-large project through to completion.

The promotions listed above do NOT go through promotion council. The Brigade C/O is able to promote the members up to Captain. Thenceforward it will need the decision of the promotion council.

Captain --> Major

  1. You must again maintain all requirements from previous promotions.
  2. You probably will have to have been active in your Brigade for 4 - 5 months, at least.
  3. You will most likely be a C/O or X/O of a group.
  4. You will be active at least once a day, to post or respond to email/cMS.
  5. You will show a keen desire to help your Brigade.
  6. You will be an active participant within the community.

Major --> Lieutenant Kernel

  1. Again you will maintain all previous requirements.
  2. You will have been active in your Brigade for 6 - 9 months, at least.
  3. You should be a C/O (or have good reason for being otherwise).
  4. You should show an ability to lead people and teams.
  5. You should be active for at least a couple of hours a day.
  6. You should show good knowledge of your Brigade, CyberArmy, and the community.

Lieutenant Kernel --> Kernel

  1. Maintain all previous requirements.
  2. You probably will have been active in your Brigade for over a year.
  3. You should be active for at least a few hours each day.
  4. You should be available on IRC, CA and Brigade Forums and cMS to answer questions and organize work.
  5. You should show a good ability to lead other members.
  6. You are expected to participate more in CA as a whole and be excellent in your field of work.
  7. You should show potential for becoming a Staff Member.

The last three promotions are handled by the Promotion Council and will require proper evidence of the members work and input to the CyberArmy community. These promotions can take around 72 hours, but may take longer if an investigation is needed. The same procedure as before with regards to recommendation for promotion apply, except Brigade Coordinators use the Promotion Council to assist in a decision.
